It’s no coincidence that red is considered the color of love. It’s not just folklore or Hallmark’s doing either. Studies have proven that the color red has an impact on a man’s reaction to a woman.

Yes, red clothing will turn your man on. A sexy red dress, a simple red sweater, or a slick red ladies suit could do more than make you look amazing; these red clothes could make him want you even more.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

According to a 2008 study completed by the University of Rochester, “the color red makes men feel more amorous toward women. And men are unaware of the role the color plays in their attraction.”

In the study, they tested men’s reactions to photos of women wearing five different colors. Researchers concluded that men’s response to red was most likely a biological response and not a socialized response.

In a brief article describing the study (click here if you want to read it in full), the university outwardly claims these findings will impact the fashion industry, and we here at DressMakerInABox.com agree. A powerful red dress or separate piece should be a staple in every woman’s wardrobe.

Now that you know red improves the likelihood of a man finding you attractive, we think you should wear fashionable red clothing in these situations:

First dates, second dates, and the hundredth date (you get the idea)
In the photo you upload to your online dating profile
After a big fight with your sweetheart
Wear red on Valentine’s Day!

We wish all of our readers a fabulous Valentine’s whether you are looking for cupid to strike or not. And enjoy the chocolate candy hearts too – they’re our favorite.

There’s no outfit more versatile than a suit.

Dress suits, skirt suits, black suits, green suits, business suits, church suits…the list could go on and on. Not just because there are hundreds of ladies suit styles and types to choose from, but because one suit can be broken up and worn as part of several different outfits too.

For example, one skirt suit could result in four different outfits. Take the suit jacket and dress it down with jeans or dress it up with another complementary pair of slacks. Wear the jacket with a dress and cute heels. Take the skirt and go crazy with layers. You have leggings, tank tops, wraps, sweaters, and boots to work with.

This is just one advantage to a suit. There’s more reasons why a ladies suit is a wardrobe mainstay.

Suits Flatter all Body Types

Petites, plus size, curvy, no matter your body type, a suit flatters all body types – especially a custom ladies suits. The reason? A properly fitted suit hugs a woman’s frame showing off her shape, but not accenting her less attractive areas by revealing too much.

DressMakerInABox.com Suit Buying Advice

For a fully fashioned wardrobe, purchase one suit or one matching top and bottom set each season. A dress suit or pants suit is a great investment in a wardrobe, because whether they are worn together or separately, the suit can be worn for professional, religious, and ceremonial events as well as for casual, out on the town events too.

Ladies, browse our selection of ladies suits. You can also request our fitting garment to be sure you get the right fit every time.

V Magazine describes itself this way: “V is a magazine about fashion with a capital F and all the things that go with it: art, music, film, architecture…you name it.”

In their online description they go on to say that V Magazine is where couture meets underground chic. In the past, they illustrated this with the typical skin and bones models on its pages. For example, the latest cover features the ever-thin Natalie Portman.

But that’s about to change, at least according to all the hype the magazine is pulling for its “size issue.” The Chanel-famed Karl Lagerfeld is one of the photographers who shot the models for the issue. The point is to highlight the move in the fashion industry to feature more shapely women, not to feature any particular pieces.

You may remember our recent blog post, A Refreshing *Trendy* Fashion Change – All Size Models, where we talked about Lagerfeld’s RUDE remarks on curvy models. Maybe he’s had a change of heart? Or maybe the consumers have spoken and he has nowhere else to go?

Whatever the reason, we’re happy to see Lagerfeld eat his words and we’re happy to see another magazine take a stand on including all women. We hope the entire fashion industry follows suit.

ps – Image credit goes to V Magazine

I recently stumbled upon an article in The Wall Street Journal, titled “The Forgotten Market Online – Older Women” that pointed out how women over 35 have few options when it comes to online shopping and browsing. The reporter, Christina Binkley, did an amazing job assessing existing fashion sites that combine social media, online shopping, and our current fashion culture.

She stated that NPD Group, a market research company, determined that women over 35 are responsible for 65% of online apparel purchases. This corresponds with the fact that baby boomers as a whole have huge spending power and are one of the largest demographics participating in online shopping as well as social media.

Later in the article she says: “. . . It’s grandmothers who may save them [online retailers]. Online sales to women aged 25-34 fell 8% in the year ended in March, but sales to 55-to-64-year-olds rose 11% — recession be damned.”

We’re right there with Ms. Binkley. Every woman deserves to have options when it comes to fashion — especially women over 35, because they make up the largest part of the market. We want to have options that reflect every woman’s individual style, age, bust size, and budget. To meet this need, DressMakerInABox.com offers standard sizes and custom-made fashions for women of all ages – even grandmothers!

Don’t forget to sign up for our newsletter, Fashion News & Cues, (link at the top of the page). We are offering a free coupon to everyone who signs up, and on top of that, all subscribers will receive great info on women’s suits, custom fashions, our new items, and much much more.

Eco-friendly bridesmaid’s dresses are a DressMakerInABox.com specialty. Not only do we have a dedicated line of bridesmaid dresses, but we can create every dress in silk, which is a natural protein.

Silk is great for sensitive skin or those with certain allergies. On top of that great fact, most organic silk is produced using an eco-friendly process too.

DressMakerInABox.com promotes the use of eco-friendly fabrics and the eco-friendly practice of re-purposing bridesmaid dresses into new clothing and home décor, because let’s face it, you’re not going to wear that dress again!

Some of our previous customers have asked us to create pillows and purses. Now that is an eco-friendly bridesmaid dress!

You can see an example of the work we’ve done to transform a blue bridesmaid dress into two accent pillows by reading the very first issue of Eco-Beautiful Weddings Magazine. We are honored to be mentioned in this magazine and are appreciative of the magazine’s Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Katie Martin, and Style Editor, Robin Fisher, for including DressMakerInABox.com in their inaugural issue.

If you haven’t seen the magazine, I highly recommend you do. Even if you aren’t planning a wedding, I’m confident you’ll find valuable fashion, style, and eco-friendly information worth your while. Just visit eco-beautifulweddings.com and don’t forget to look at page 19 to see one of our bridesmaid dresses turned into an eco-friendly pillow!

ps – For more info on re-purposing bridesmaid dresses and even jewelry, see our previous post about reusing a pair of pearls for use in a green bridesmaid dress.

1. Bags, bags, and more bags. I really do like FranklinCovey for their style and price. Check out this tote.

2. A red knit jacket with pants. I know, I know, it’s hard to buy clothes for someone else. But it’s not hard to order a Fitting Garment from DressMakerInABox.com for your friend or family member to use. The Fitting Garment is free and will make an excellent gift, because she will then be able to have designer fashions fit exactly for her. Best part, you get to pick up the tab!

3. Have you been to Etsy.com? You wouldn’t believe the fun things you can find there. This is one of my favorite discoveries as of late. Ruffled wrist warmers!

4. Art Fire is another lovely website. I like to browse their jewelry for unique finds. A glass bead watch? Sign me up.

5. What comes first in the line of fashion importance – creativity or practicality? What if I told you that you could have both? Marc Jacobs has a stunning perfume ring that no lady should be without. (This image by way of RachelZoe.com.)

We recently told you about our custom made floral fashions, which were influenced by the artwork of Heidi Rand at Garden Arts Delights. Well, Heidi was interviewed by the crew at Melange, a mixed media team for artists who sell on Etsy.

Melange frequently features artists and their works, which is why Heidi had the chance to sit down with them. In the interview Heidi also mentioned DressMakerInABox.com, which tickles us pink. Thanks again, Heidi!

Below is a quick excerpt of that interview, or you can find the entire interview by visiting the Melange site.

******

Question: You’ve received some great news recently regarding some of your fabric and a new clothing line. Could you share some more on that; how it came about, and what your hopes are for that endeavor in the future.

Answer: Etsy was the matchmaker in that partnership. I posted about my first fabric printing class to my local SFetsy team, which led a dressmaker based in a nearby town, Michele Battise of Dress Maker In a Box to my shop and websites. My nature themed fabric really clicked with her. She chose a few of my designs to incorporate into her garments and I printed several yards of fabric for her. She has just released her winter line, which includes a dress, skirt and suit using some of my fabric on the collars and cuffs. (Her blog post about it is here.)

This is truly a dream come true for me, and I have great hopes for my further partnership with Michele. She’s a very creative designer and gifted dressmaker.
