I recently stumbled upon an article in The Wall Street Journal, titled “The Forgotten Market Online – Older Women” that pointed out how women over 35 have few options when it comes to online shopping and browsing. The reporter, Christina Binkley, did an amazing job assessing existing fashion sites that combine social media, online shopping, and our current fashion culture.
She stated that NPD Group, a market research company, determined that women over 35 are responsible for 65% of online apparel purchases. This corresponds with the fact that baby boomers as a whole have huge spending power and are one of the largest demographics participating in online shopping as well as social media.
Later in the article she says: “. . . It’s grandmothers who may save them [online retailers]. Online sales to women aged 25-34 fell 8% in the year ended in March, but sales to 55-to-64-year-olds rose 11% — recession be damned.”
We’re right there with Ms. Binkley. Every woman deserves to have options when it comes to fashion — especially women over 35, because they make up the largest part of the market. We want to have options that reflect every woman’s individual style, age, bust size, and budget. To meet this need, DressMakerInABox.com offers standard sizes and custom-made fashions for women of all ages – even grandmothers!
